2. February 2008
I was spending the week-end at my friend Håvard's cabin at Nystølen near Nesbyen, together with Tore, Terje, Halvard and Håvard. The plan had been to ski to Dyna on the Friday, but the weather didn't allow anything as adventurous as that, so on Friday Terje, Håvard and I did 15 km cross-country around Nystølen, while Tore was shopping food and drinks, and Halvard was still at work.
On Saturday the weather conditions were much better, but by then the condition of the skiers had declined considerably, so an attempt at Dyna was deemed out of bounds. Instead Håvard, Terje and me decided to pay a visit to Åkrefjell, while Halvard and Tore were skiing around Nystølen. In the first hill Håvard called it a day when it came to keeping up with Terje and me, and decided to continue at a speed that suited him. Terje and me continued towards Åkrefjell, but I understood very well that Terje would have preferred a more aggressive speed than I could offer. He still stayed with me, but halfway up the non-tracked ascent to Åkrefjell he decided that it was better for his Birkebeiner preparations to go back down and continue skiing in the tracks. Also, it was quite windy up here, and opposed to me he didn't have a proper jacket in his back-pack.
I therefore continued to the top on my own, and was blessed with a really nice view of a huge mountain area, including Hallingskarvet to the north-west. I could also see Skogshorn, which I visited on ski last year, in the north.
After having skied back down the north slope I continued towards the alpine ski centre and then back to Håvard's cabin, just in time to be synchronised with the other guys. Then some duty for dinner preparations, before a long session in the sauna accompanied with suitable refreshments.
