From Ålesund drive road E39 to Solavågen and take the ferry across to Festøy. From Festøy continue on road E39 towards Ørsta and Volda for 41.9 km, and then turn right where signed for "Berknes". Drive 8.0 km and turn right where signed for "Gjerdegarden" (this sign is hardly legible by September 2009). Drive uphill 1.1 km and turn left where there is an old wooden sign for "Veten". After 30 metres you face a gate, and park on the left hand side of the forest road.
Start walking by following the forest road uphill. After 500 metres you turn right at the T-junction. Walk east another 500 metres, almost to the end of the forest road. On the left hand side of the road you will see a small cairn and the start of a well defined path that goes into the forest. Follow this path through the forest all the way to the summit.
The descent is best done by reversing the ascent route.
26. September 2009
After my hike to Helgehornet earlier this Saturday I drove directly to Eideim to hike Lidaveten. The weather was the same as during my previous hike; rain and low clouds, but little wind. By now I was starting to run a little out of steam, this being my third sub-hour hike of the day (did Heimste Synnalandsheia in the morning), so I didn't do quite the pace I wanted to, and hence would miss Njål's final football match of the day at Volda. As it turned out I got to the stadium just as the match ended, but since Elisabeth had been with him all day I don't think he minded.
