From the junction between roads 61 and 654 on the island Gurskøya, approximately 18.7 km south on road 61 from the ferry port at Hareid, drive road 654 in the direction of Fosnavåg (north-west).
- At 8.1 km turn right towards Fosnavåg.
- At 13.1 km turn left towards Fosnavåg.
- At 14.4 km turn right towards Runde.
- At 19.4 km turn left towards Runde, 100 metres after you've crossed the bridge Remøybrua.
- At 25.1 km you arrive the island Runde, and continue north-east.
- At 29.0 km park on the large car park on the right hand side of the road.
Start your walk by continuing 600 metres along the road, to Goksøyr. Turn left onto a wide path immediately after you've crossed a stream. This path, which is more like a road in the lower section, is signed for Rundebranden (amongst others). Follow the path 530 metres uphill, up to the path junction at 110m, and make sure you fork left. Then continue up to the next path junction right at the west edge of the island. Turn right and stay on the path that will take you up to the unmarked summit.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.
23. April 2014
This was my third hike this Wednesday afternoon/evening, after first having hiked Barmen and then Skaget. The first two hikes had been in solitude, but Rundabranden is a popular top because of its location close to the bird nesting area at Runde.
I kept a decent pace throughout the hike, and started to feel the lack of food and too little water by the time I was back at the car. Hence I stopped on my way to the last hike of the day (Hjørungneshornet) and got myself some rolls and a banana.
