Drive road E6 south from Oslo towards Sarpsborg. South of Sarpsborg cross the river Glomma on the bridge Sandesund bru and take first exit right. It is signed for road 111. When you hit road 111 turn right in the round-about, following signs for "Fredrikstad". 400 metres later turn left, where signed for "Borge". Follow this road 2.2 km until you see a sign for "Borge Varde" to your left. Park at the big car park.
Start walking by following the forest road at the far corner. This forest road will take you all the way to the summit. At the summit you should climb the >10 metres high metal tower in order to get a good view of southern Østfold.
The descent is best done by reversing the ascent route.

Spending some days in southern Østfold doesn't allow for a lot of possibilities when it comes to mountains and hiking. But there are some OK view points, and Vetatoppen (aka Borge Varde) is one of them. Sigurd, Elisabeth and me drove from Sarpsborg after a quick breakfast, and soon found ourselves at the trail head. From the car we did easy running all the way to the summit, before climbing the >10 metres high metal tower. And those 10+ metres made all the difference in terms of view; we got above the trees and could enjoy nice views of in particular Fredrikstad town.
