Route from north end of Dravlausnyken ridge towards lake Langenesvatnet.

From Ålesund drive to Magerholm and take the ferry across to Aursneset. From the ferry port drive 16.2 km towards Stranda on road 60, and turn left onto a forest road. Park on the small car park above road 60. If coming from Stranda, drive 750 metres past the exit for "Brunstad" and turn right onto the forest road.

Walk through the gate and continue uphill 1 km. You will see a path forking off to the left, into the spruce forest. If you miss this exit you will come to the end of the forest road 100 metres later, and will then have to walk back to the path. Continue up through the forest on a well defined path, until you get to the saddle between Urfjellet on your right and Dravlausnyken ridge on your left. Turn left and locate the path leading onto the ridge. Follow this ridge all the way until you are above the big gulley between the ridge and Straumshornet. The ridge traverse requires some use of hands along the way, but is not difficult at any point.

When you get to the ridge you need to descend down towards the north end of lake Langenesvatnet. The descent down from the north end of the ridge is exposed at some places, and it might be wise to follow the ridge a little towards south (back the way you came) before descending.

When you have reached Langenesvatnet follow the path that runs on the east (left) side of the lake. When you get to the south end you will have to find the best route up to the saddle, since the path is very vague in places. From the saddle follow the path you used when ascending through the forest, and then follow the forest road back to the car.

06. July 2008

I had high hopes for this hike, but unfortunately it failed on two major points; the views were very limited due to fog, and I wasn't able to climb the cut between Dravlausnyken ridge and Straumshornet. Apart from these two set-backs it was a very enjoyable hike, in particular the scramble along the Dravlausnyken ridge. The descent down to lake Langenesvatnet was much more difficult than I had anticipated, and on two occasions I had major problems continuing if I shouldn't climb back up and find a different descent route.
