Assume your starting point is the junction outside Åndalsnes, where roads E136 and 64 meet. Start measuring from here and drive road 64 towards Molde;
- At 22.7 km turn left towards "Rødven".
- At 23.1 km turn left onto unsigned road, opposite "Saltkjelsnes Camping" (camping site).
- At 24.1 km turn left and park, just before a barn.
Start your hike by following the gravel road along lake Oravatnet. Turn right after 1.1 km, a little before the road starts to descend after having ascended a little. Follow this rough forest road 200 metres and turn left when you meet the forest road that comes up from the west side of lake Oravatnet. Fork right in the 3-way junction after another 600 metres, and follow this forest road 1.5 km to its end. Make sure you continue straight ahead (don't turn left) 500 metres from the 3-way junction, and note that 950 metres from the 3-way junction the forest road is more like a path than a forest road.
Turn right at the end of the forest road, and follow the path marked by red paint 500 metres to the summit. The summit is not marked in any way, and you have to locate it amongst the trees. Note that the path continues to a view point away from the summit.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.
I had hiked Kvitfjellet earlier this Sunday and decided to bag another top in
the area before driving home. The hike to Frisvollfjellet was a little longer
than expected, but it was easy hiking all the way. My only complaint on this
nice and warm day was the huge amounts of flies circling around my head during
most of the hike, and the lack of views from the summit.
