From the round about in Lom where roads 15 and 55 meet, drive 13.3 km on road 15 in the direction of Otta (east). Turn left onto the road "Kollavegen" where signed for "Sandom" (there is a church on the right hand side of road 15), and drive 3.2 km until you get to "Sandom retreatsenter" on the left hand side of the road. Make sure you fork right 800 metres after leaving road 15. Park on the car park before the first building, or find somewhere to park along the road.
Walk past the first building and then locate the path going uphill between the two main buildings. This path will take you all the way to the summit, but it crosses and runs along a number of forest roads, and you need to make sure you follow the path marked with red paint. Just below the summit you need to fork right and climb onto the final summit ridge.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.
We had travelled to Bøverdalen the night before, with the main intention of
climbing Galdhøpiggen either this Friday or the day after. In the morning we
drove up to Juvasshytta, but with visibility of less than 50 metres we decided
to postpone the Galdhøpiggen hike one day. Instead we drove down to Lom, where
my family did all the touristy stuff while I hiked Høgkollen together with a
million mosquitoes.
