Start of route to Hovdeåsen, at Hovden.

From Ålesund drive to Magerholm and take the ferry across to Aursneset. From the ferry port drive 4.1 km towards Stranda on road 60, and then turn right across the bridge to Hundeidvik. There is an unmanned toll booth as you enter the bridge (NOK 33, May 2010). After the bridge you get to a roundabout, where you continue straight ahead towards "Hundeidvik". From the round-about drive 7.2 km and fork right onto a gravel road, signed for "Hovden". Drive this gravel road to road end, 1.5 km. Find a suitable place to park without blocking for cars turning around.

Start your walk by heading up the path just before the house. There is an old sign for "Hovdeåsen" here. Follow the path all the way to the summit, which is marked by a trigonometric point.

The descent is best done by reversing your ascent route.

29. May 2010

We were spending the week-end at our cabin at Fjellsetra, and this Saturday we went to a football tournament at Hundeidvik to support our soon-10 year old. Hence I at last found a chance to visit Hovdeåsen without having to drive specifically for it. Since we had a number of boys staying with us at the cabin this week-end we drove two cars, which allowed me to drive directly to Hovden.

It was a fine day for hiking (and for football, later on), and the route from Hovden is a very nice hike indeed, so I truly enjoyed myself during this short hike. To my surprise I noticed that none had signed the registry book at the summit before me, but during my descent I met in total five persons.

After the hike I drove down to the football stadium at Hundeidvik, where my son's team lost all three games, and all of them with one goal. Very annoying for an old sports idiot.
