From Ålesund drive road E39 south towards Bergen, and get the ferry from Solevåg to Festøy. At Festøy turn right off the ferry and drive road E39. Measure from the ferry.
- At 3.8 km turn left where signed for "Hyttegrend".
- At 4.9 km turn right.
- At 5.4 km pay toll in unmanned booth (NOK 20 per 2013).
- At 8.2 km park on a car park on the left hand side of the road.
Start your walk by continuing 70 metres along the gravel road, and then turn left across a wooden bridge. Turn right onto a path immediately after the bridge. Follow the path south-west, along the left hand side of the stream, up to approximately 560 metres. From here the (vague) path turns right and continues north-west up to the right hand side of the small lake at 640 metres. Pass the lake and turn left (north-west), cross the stream draining from lake Klovvatnet at 688 metres, and turn right to gain the steeper slopes up to Klovetinden's wide north-east ridge. Turn left when the terrain gets less steep, and follow the wide ridge south-west to the summit.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.
There was no chance there would be nice weather this Tuesday, but I was still keen on hiking a new mountain, and I also wanted to take colleague Mark out for some fresh air. Hiking mate Kjetil was also keen to come along, and we all drove in one car from the ferry port at Festøy.
The whole hike was done in mist, including very dense mist at the summit. We
still got some sense of the steep drops around the summit, but a second visit to
this top is definitely on the block, preferably then on skis.
