Assume your starting point is the roads 70/680 junction by Kvernberget airport, a little east of Kristiansund centre. Drive 400 metres along road 70 in the direction of Kristiansund centre (west), and turn right where signed for "Kvernberget". Follow the road 200 metres and turn left immediately after a shopping centre, and stay on this road 1.0 km. At this point the road is blocked by a gate, and you should find parking on the car park on the left hand side of the road.
The path starts on the right side of the road, where signed for Kvernberget and more. Follow this path north-east to Kvernberget's summit, which is marked by a cairn and a trigonometric point marker. You will find a summit registration book inside a post box on the cairn.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.
I was spending the week-end in Kristiansund, for a boys-16 indoor football tournament. After Saturday's matches we had made it to the quarter finals of the play-offs, but I had the opportunity to a quick hike before the game. The only quick hike, given that I wanted to hike a new top with primary factor >100m, was Kvernberget.
The morning was sunny and nice, and with the 10-15 cm of fresh snow from a couple of days ago the conditions were quite epic. The snow was likely to cause an issue with locating the path which I knew would take me to the summit, but when I got to trail head a little before 8 am I was happy to find tracks from one hiker. I followed these hikes to the summit, had a good summit rest with nice views, and then returned to my car for the short drive back to base camp for breakfast and preparations for the football.
