Drive road E39 south from Bergen, and then onto road 580 towards Flesland (the
airport). When you pass the big shopping centre Lagunen turn left in the
round-about onto road 546, signed for "Fana". Drive 3.8 km to a junction where
road 546 turns right towards Krokeide. You should continue straight ahead here,
towards Fanafjellet and Os. The road zigzags up the hill towards Fanafjellet,
and 1.7 km after the Krokeide exit you will see a small car park on the right
hand side of the road and a forest road going into the forest. Park here.
Start walking by following the forest road south-west. After approximately 350
metres the forest road turns into a path and continues south-west. After having
descended a little you reach a forest. The path is a little difficult to follow
through this spruce forest but as long as you make sure you walk where the
ground is brown, as opposed to green, you will get out of the forest where the
path is once again easy to follow. You will now see the telecomm building at the
summit and the direction is obvious, following the path south.
When you get to the foot of the summit you cross a moor, where the path again is less obvious, but it is just sufficiently defined to make navigation easy. When you get up in a small pass you will see ropes coming down from your right and you head up along these ropes, which can be useful during winter if the rock is icy. When this steep section is done the rest of the route to the summit is obvious. Note that the telecomm building is located at the actual summit.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.
I was spending two days in Bergen for work, one day out at our offices at Hordvikneset, and this Wednesday at our Hagavik location. My hotel for the night had been at Kokstad, and I had made up my mind that I would do a morning hike to Lyseskarfjellet on my way to Hagavik.
I woke up a little before 05:30 and after having packed my suitcase and prepared a small back-pack for my camera and GPS, I went for breakfast wearing hiking gear and downed a good portion of egg&bacon before hitting the road. At 06:20 I was ready to start my hike, on a bright spring morning, but a little cold. But I soon got warm, and hiking this morning was very enjoyable.
Back at the car I headed straight to our factory at Hagavik, where I had a
shower and treated myself with a soft-drink.
