From the big petrol station in Sjøholt drive 10.5 km towards Åndalsnes on road E136. Find parking on the right hand side of the road.

Cross the road and start skiing. Aim for a "junction" among the power-lines, and follow the one that is going north-west. When you are directly south of Egga turn slightly right and head directly north towards Egga (a little top on the south-west ridge leading up to Middagsfjellet). There are a number of stream that have to be crossed in this flat section of the route; you will need to find snow bridges you can use to get across.

As you get up to Egga gradually turn right (north-east) and find your best way to the summit ridge. The highest point is located furthest north-east on this ridge.

The return is best done via the ascent route.

19. April 2008

I set out at 08:05 this beautiful Saturday morning, hoping that I would be able to get up and back down before the sun had melted the crust of the snow. After a little bit of struggle to find suitable places to cross a couple of the streams I headed directly up to the Middagsfjellet ridge. Up towards Egga I broke through the crust a few times but this lasted only about five metres.

After having enjoyed the summit view and taken some photos (I actually ran out of power for my camera, but after having warmed the battery in my hand I was able to complete the photo session), I started the descent, anxious what the snow would be like. No need for worries; the snow was perfect for skiing without any traces of the crust giving way to my weight.

Further down the hill I suddenly broke through the crust but just managed to regain balance. When I stopped and looked back I could see that this was the same area as I broke through on my way up. After the short stop I continued back to the car, and was all set to drive back home by 10:00. There were now tens of cars at the parking place.
