Drive to the intersection of roads 659 and 661 by Eidet (Tennfjord). Turn left and continue towards Brattvåg for 3.5 km. Just after having passed the river coming down from lake Slyngstadvatnet turn right up a gravel road. Continue 500 metres up this road, until you get to a junction where one forest road continues north-east and one goes off to north-west. Find parking here, or either further along the road or back down at the main road.
The route follows the mountain road heading north-west. After ~250 metres you get to two cabins. Follow the path to the left of these cabins, and continue for 150 metres until you meet a mountain road coming up from left. Turn right and follow this mountain road in a northern direction. This road makes a couple of zigzags, and will take you up to a power-line crossing Remefjellet. Just before you get to the power-line go off-road in a western direction, and walk parallel with the power-line for approximately 150 metres. Then turn south-west and find the best way towards the east ridge of Øygardsheia. There are no clear paths here, but traces of deer-paths can be found in some places. Onto the ridge of Øygardsheia it is simple a matter of continuing to the summit.
The descent can either be done by following the ascent route or by following the eastern ridge all the way down to the forest. As one is getting to the forest move to the left (north) side of the ridge and continue downwards. There is a reasonable path here that will take you back down to the mountain road. If you don't find this path then you have to fight your way through the forest until you get to the mountain road. Once on the mountain road you need to head back up (north) to get to the path leading back to the two cabins, and then back to the car.
I had done Heimste Synnalandsheia on the morning, but really wanted some more exercise this day. Elisabeth decided to give me a Christmas gift by joining me for a short hike. I suggested we tried Øygardsheia, and she was on despite the appalling weather.
We left Brattvåg around 14:00, and set out from Slyngstad 14:20. The wind was moderate in the lower parts, and the rain wasn't too bad. The two biggest concerns were the icy road up towards Remefjellet, and whether we would get back down to the car before it was too dark.
As we got above ~250 metres the rain had turned into sleet, and closer to the top it was thick snow and poor visibility.
On the way down, the ice caused Elisabeth to fall once but nothing major. We got back down to the car 1:05 hours after we started, with still just enough light for comfortable walking.
