Start measuring from the round about east of Molde centre where roads E39 and 662 intersect (this is approximately 0.8 km along E39 from the ferry port). Drive E39 east in the direction of Trondheim:
- At 4.1 km turn left in the round about, towards Eide.
- At 15.8 km fork left towards Elnesvågen.
- At 21.8 km continue straight ahead on road 664 (don't turn right towards Farstad).
- At 31.4 km turn right towards Hustad.
- At 38.1 km turn right onto road signed for Raudtua.
- At 39.5 km fork left.
- At 40.7 km park on he left hand side of the road where a tractor road runs parallel with the gravel road.
Start your walk by following the tractor road 260 metres towards south-east and then turn left onto a signed path where signed for Raudtua. Follow this path all the way up to the summit, where you will find two summit registration books.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.
I called Bård the night before and asked if he was keen on a couple of hikes in the cold but nice conditions. As expected he was on and we agreed that he would pick me up a little after 7am in order for us to catch the 08:15 ferry from Vestnes to Molde.
This was a most fabulous Sunday, with a bright sky free from clouds and we started our hike from Herskaret 09:40. Bård pushed quite hard up the initial hill, and I definitely soon got into proper hiking mode. Most enjoyable!
We got to the summit at the same time as the sun raised above Talstadhesten, which gave us OK light for taking some summit photos. We then headed back down to our car, and then off to Eide in order to hike Vardhågan/Silsetfjellet.
