Drive road N-332 north through Alicante, passing Benacantil and Castell de Santa Barbara on your left hand side. Follow the road through a left bend, then through the round-about, and then turn right. Towards the top of the following long hill you turn right where signed for "Centro Comercial". From here drive a little further up towards the base of the mountain.
Start walking by following any of the many paths up along the south-west slopes of Serra Grossa. The summit is not marked by any cairn, and the exact location of the highest point is hard to find on the large plateau.
For descent follow your ascent route or an alternate track for variation.
I had already been on a long hike earlier this Wednesday (Puig Campana), but when Ole-Jørgen and Sigurd wanted to go to Alicante to look for a skating park I saw the opportunity to come along to bag Serra Grossa. We left Gran Vista around 16:00, and after some driving around to find somewhere for the boys to go skating we decided that I just drop them off and then head for Serra Grossa trail head.
It was a very warm afternoon, and although the hike to the summit took me under 10 minutes I was pouring with sweat by the time I reached the summit. From the summit I got a nice view of Benacantil, but the haze was seriously distracting the views to the mountains in the distant.
After the hike I drove back to city centre, parked the car, and killed half an hour or so by the harbour waiting for the others.
