First part of route to Søvikhornet, up to path.
Fork right just before stone fence, above lake Løsetvatnet.
The final climb to the summit.

From Ålesund drive towards Magerholm and then take the ferry across to Aursneset. From the ferry drive 2.6 km on road 60 towards Stranda, and then turn left where signed for "Ramstaddal". Drive 7.9 km and find parking next to a small garage on the right hand side of the road.

Walk across the main road and head up across the fields on the right hand side of a stone fence. You will soon see a path going up to your left, and follow this path through the old gate and then uphill. Follow this path through the forest, staying on the main path whenever you see smaller paths forking off to the left or right. After approximately 1.3 km you see an old stone fence ahead of you. A few metres before this fence there is a vague path going off to the right. Note that if you walk past the stone fence and start a small decline towards lake Løsetvatnet you have walked too far and missed the exit.

Follow this vague path through the forest. When you get to an opening in the forest you cross the march on the shortest route and locate the path going uphill into the forest on the other side. Continue on this path until you are faced with a cliff. Walk on the left side of the cliff and soon turn sharp right in order to climb up on the ridge. Then continue along the ridge until you get to the next cliff, which you walk around on the right hand side. This path takes you up to the main ridge towards Søvikhornet, and you follow this ridge, on a vague path, until you are at the foot of the final climb towards the summit. From here you can choose whatever route you fancy, but the easiest is probably to walk a few metres into the flat, small valley at the base of the mountain. Then turn left and follow the path uphill towards the final ridge. Follow a route a little below the ridge, on the right (south) side of the ridge, up to the summit.

For the descent it is easiest to follow the ascent route.

09. May 2009

This was a quick hike on my way from Brattvåg to Fjellsetra on Saturday noon. The first part of the hike I did a year ago when I hiked Sandvikshornet, so I didn't need much planning to find trail head and get underway. As I got above the forest the wind was a bit cold, and at the summit there was a short spell of snow.
