From the Kristiansund/Molde/Kvalvåg junction north on the island Frei drive 4.5 km towards Kvalvåg. Turn right where signed for Frei sjukeheim and park right next to the main road.
Start your hike by heading up the road called Oladalen (walk back parallel along the road you arrived), and leave the road left after 500 metres, onto a path. Follow this path 110 metres, turn left and follow the flood lit path 420 metres. Turn left where signed for "Storskarven" and follow the exceptionally wet and boggy path all the way to the summit, where you will find a telecomm mast.
Descend by reversing your ascent route.
After Njål's handball game this Saturday there was still plenty of time for another hike for Elisabeth and me. We decided to pay a visit to Storskarven, which proved to be an even wetter experience than Sildvolnesåsen, but navigation was relatively straight forward and we found the summit in just over 40 minutes. After another short summit stop we headed back down and then back to our Scandic hotel in Kristiansund centre.
