  Overview of route towards Trolltinden.

From Ålesund drive road E39 to Sjøholt and continue across Ørskogfjellet. Leave E39 onto E136 and drive 7.8 km to Tresfjord, to where the road starts to turn north (just before the exit to Øvstedal). Continue on E136, and start measuring from here:

- At 4.9 km turn right where signed for "Daugstadsetra".

- At 5.5 km fork left just before a small bridge.

- At 5.6 km turn right.

- At 5.8 km pay toll in unmanned toll booth (NOK 50 per 2015).

- At 9.5 km park on the right hand side of the road, inside the fenced area.

From the car park walk towards the cabins above the car park. Don't follow the old wooden arrows, but instead head directly uphill next to the arrows. You should be able to find old dots of red paint on trees and rocks, and in general you should head perpendicular to the slope ahead of you. When you get up to the open forest at 590m you should make sure you find the path that will take you through the forest and onwards to 860m. From here there's still red paint but it's probably better to head more uphill than along the marked route, in order to avoid some of the boulder. Wherever you walk you need to head south-east and later south in order to find the marked summit of Trolltinden.

Descend by reversing your ascent route.

21. September 2015

Trond sent me a text message on Sunday and asked if I wanted to join him for a hike this Monday afternoon. The timing couldn't have been better since I was due to start my next round of chemotherapy the day after, and since I was feeling pretty well I didn't need much convincing. I asked Trond to check my Peakbook.org map and pick any mountain that wouldn't require a long drive or a long walk, and also suggested Trolltinden on the east side of Tresfjorden. Game on.

I was picked up at home a little after 13:30 and we started our hike at 14:55, in nice and sunny conditions, but with some mist here and there. The ascent to Trolltinden was relatively easy and we reached the summit in around 1½ hours. At the summit we had nice views towards north and east, but the views towards the Sunnmøre alps were seriously obstructed by mist. For me this was quite OK, and specially with the sun shining on the north and east mountains we got very nice views.

After the summit stop we headed back down, but this time decided to follow the marked route. In hindsight I'm convinced our ascent route was much better than the descent route and will definitely recommend our ascent route both for ascent and descent.
