From Ålesund drive to Magerholm and take the ferry across to Aursneset. From the ferry port drive 16.2 km towards Stranda on road 60, and turn left onto a forest road. Park on the small car park above road 60. If coming from Stranda, drive 750 metres past the exit for "Brunstad" and turn right onto the forest road.
Walk through the gate and continue uphill 1 km. You will see a path forking off to the left, into the spruce forest. If you miss this exit you will come to the end of the forest road 100 metres later, and will then have to walk back to the path. Continue up through the forest on a well defined path, until you get to the saddle between Urfjellet on your right and Dravlausnyken ridge on your left. Turn right and cross the moor. Then aim right of the first ridge, where you will find the path. Follow this path, which for the most runs along the ridge towards Svadfjellet.
After Svadfjellet the path gradually fades away, but it is easy walking across the flat terrain. When you're faced with the long ascent up to the summit of Urfjellet you should keep left of a large section of slab in the middle of the hill. In general it is best to keep close to the left edge. When it gets flatter the route to follow to the summit is obvious. There is some exposure around the summit so a minimum of care should be shown.
The descent is best done via the ascent route.
We were spending this week at our cabin at Fjellsetra, so the drive down to Hjorthol this Wednesday morning was done in minutes. I set out from Hjorthol at 09:50 in OK conditions; no rain but a little wind and cloudy. By the time I got to the summit I was well exhausted, and due to lack of proper clothes in my rucksack I started to freeze a little at the summit.
On my way down I picked a few chantarelle in the forest a few hundred metres before I was back at the car.
